Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails

Ghosthunter was a 2015 Warner Brothers Kids film. We worked onsite at Eggs studio in Dublin from the initial teams recruitment stage providing 3D Modeling, texturing, look development and conceptual art.

Ghosthunters was an Irish/German co produced kids feature film for Warner Brothers with the bulk of the VFX shots done by Egg Post Production in Dublin. Glen joined the team as Lead Modeler and helped to recruit the initial team and then create a range of characters including Hugo the Green ghost. The film required a gigantic Ancient Ice Monster, a range of averagely spooky ghosts and a few floating spooks! Egg handled 323 shots which covered the entire film which was predominantly shot in Germany.

 

For such a simple character, creating Hugo the slimy ghost was a huge challenge. The base 3D model had no neck which means that as his mouth opened it droped into his belly. We created a flexible rig and needed over 260 corrective blend shapes to give the animators enough control. His arms had to go from little stumps to long jelly like protrusions capable of lots of squash & stretch movements. His skin was  slimy, reflective and refractive which brought the  lighting team no end of issues as he moved through different lighting environments.
